I painted this while visiting my father in Philadelphia, using his box room as a makeshift studio. He has a couple of the Dream Portrait paintings I made in the early 200s that inspired me to revisit that imagery.
There was a random aspect to the development of the composition which I solved by taping off a grid. Louise Bourgeois said with a grid you can put anything inside, a freedom via constraint. I take that principle to heart.
