Through and Through and Through
Oil on linen | 24x80
At the Sharpe-Walentas Residency I had a corner studio with 7 windows one side facing up towards Brooklyn and the other at the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and the East River.
The arcingg form in this piece and the horizontal spread of the polyptychs was in part a celebration of this panoramic extravaganza.
The figures and images that are distributed across the canvas are drawn from various sketchbooks, and drawings I made at the Met of museum visitors wandering and the Penn Museum in Philadelphia where I made drawings from the Mayan art of the what they called the old God. The forms and space of the landscape is mostly inspired from drawings I made in Italy the summer before.
