You Came Far

Oil on linen | 30x40

Most of my paintings merge imagery from drawings made in different places and times and drift into associative memory.

This painting began with smears of color rather than a drawing. I had made some drawings at Untermeyer Gardens in Yonkers looking towards the Hudson River and the Palisades which became the starting place for turning the smears into form.

The distant landscape gradually turned into something closer to my memories of Cape Mabou in Nova Scotia, where I spent a significant part of my childhood and youth. The laying figure appears in a number of paintings- I did of him as an oblique dreamer.
